Astro A40 Review – Headset & MixAmp

Visit www.astrogaming.com for more information on the A40 and other Astro A40 Products.

I really do think this is a great head set, and one of the best out there with a boom mic. The MixAmp really falls short though. Which is really disappointing, considering the potential it has. With similar specs to Sennheiser HD555’s $200 seems a bit high for this headset. For about the same price you can get a decent pocket amp and 555’s. Which apparently is a killer combo. All you need is a mic though.

If you’re really into XBL gaming, you’re already playing with inferior graphics and control than PC gaming. So the faults of the MixAmp might not mean as much to you as it does for me. I really like the headset a lot and I’m glad I got one. I’m really into my peripherals, it took me 4 tries to find the right keyboard. G15, Lycosa, M1, and finally settled on the Filco. The same has happened with this headset. I have not heard of anything better. And if there is anything better I believe it will come from Astro.

Oh and btw I’ve been using this headset for almost a year now. Since I live in Canada this is what I had to pay for it in American money (USD):

Subtotal: $269.90
Shipping (UPS Duties PrePaid (3-5 Days)): +$98.10
Grand Total: $368.00
